Evaluation of protective effects of gallic acid on cisplatin‐induced testicular and epididymal damage

Cisplatin is an effective chemotherapeutic drug used to treat many types of tumours. However, it may cause male reproductive toxicity. Gallic acid exhibits beneficial effects such as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and antitumor. The current study investigated the gallic against testis epididymis toxicity induced by cisplatin. Male rats were divided into 4 groups follows (n = 7): Control, cisplatin (a single dose 8 mg/kg), (50 mg/kg) +Gallic groups. Testis was examined morphometrically stereological methods. In addition, apoptosis, DNA damage, oxidative stress parameters in testosterone serum measured. Epididymis histopathologically evaluated. As a result, significant decrease observed number spermatogonia, Leydig Sertoli cells, testicular volume, height germinal epithelial, Bcl-2 immunopositive cell number, activity CAT, GSH SOD enzymes levels compared with group control group, while increase Caspase-3, Bax 8-OHdG cells MDA levels. significantly restored these parameters. Our reveals that improve Cisplatin-induced reducing stress, suppressing apoptosis damage restoring structural functional deterioration.
